APC40 Fader Response messed up..? Any ideas on how to fix it

Post by JuanSOLO » Fri Nov 05, 2010 4:14 pm

Recently one of my volume faders on my APC40 started acting strange. Instead of there being a smooth transition it now jumps from a low value to a high value when pushed about 3/4 the way up. It's like it's lagging from a value of about 5 to about 100. And on top of that it will not go all the way up and more. I opened it up to see if there was anything caught in the fader, like hair or crums, and found nothing. Everything looks 100%.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix?

In your situation, I would start by using a MIDI monitor such as MIDI-OX to determine exactly what was going on.

I'm getting zero response till about 1/4 way up, then from 1/4 to 3/4 up it goes from 1 - 2, then from 3/4 till the top it goes from 3 - 124.

deng, hearing a few reports of busted faders on the APC :( They seem so solid on the outside.

My x-fader has started to die already, after less than a year. At least that one is replaceable.

Replacing the Xfader should be easy if you can find one for sale. It's only 2 screws and a plastic snap together wire hub thing.

I have same problem but worse because all my my faders act like that! MidiMonitor (OSX app) shows that faders send only from 0 to 40-50 cc messages. Knobs and everything else is fine with my APC40.

I just started having this issue as well with volume fader 4. It's only sending cc values 0-8 while every other fader works normally sending 0-127. After I moved the fader and let it rest for a few seconds it will send out a few more cc's. Sucks.

Did anyone else ever get this resolved?

Ok, did some research. This site sells replacements. I called them up and they said that this happens all the time and this part is all you need to fix a faulty fader:

@bertzerk - I've gone through an entire compressed air can and nothing.

For those of you looking to take apart the APC, I found this tutorial which shows all of the pieces that need undoing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lD1rL-ions
