If Live Preferences allow me to do 24/96...?

If Live preferences allow me to select 24bit/96mhz as a recording option, does that mean that that's what my audio interface can handle?

I have an older version M-AUDIO mobilepre USB audio interface. I just updated the drivers on it and I'm noticing that Ableton preferences are allowing me to pick higher bit-rates and sample rates than I believed it was capable of doing. Perhaps the driver update made my M-AUDIO interface more powerful. I'm not certain if I was able to pick those options before.

Does Ableton allow you to pick preference settings that are beyond your interface's capabilities?

No. Live presents the list of options that it gets from the driver.
24bit/96mhz
