How to do this in Live 8? (Midi & Scales ...)

Post by cenik11 » Sun Nov 14, 2010 3:24 pm

Hey folks :)

Okay, I realize that this wreaks of supreme laziness but I'm no musician so...

Is it possible in Live 8 to use one (or more) of the MIDI plug-ins/FX to force Live to stay within a certain scale *as one plays on a MIDI keyboard*? For instance, if I decide that I want to write a melody within the C min 7 scale, can I somehow force Live to keep the notes that I play on the keyboard within that scale even if I hit a 'wrong' note on the keyboard?

Thank you!

Has IMO nothing to do with being a musician but with getting more familiar with Live ;-)

Alas; several solutions exist..

Apart from the ones already given I think your easiest approach is an instrument effect rack. Then pull up its key zone editor and simply define in which range your input should be. Anything which falls outside of that range will then not be used.
With kind regards,

Peter

Using the 'Power' Trio: Live 10 Suite (+ Push & Max 8 ), Reason 10 and Maschine Mk3 (+ the ultimate Komplete 12).

The Scale effect chapelier fou mentions is built in to Live and will do exactly what you describe.

This is a Live-Pack from Covert Operators for a standard Live install, no suite or max for Live necessary. It is all the scale and chord types. It does exactly what you want.
