APC40 to laptop to PA system???

Post by zahnerj » Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:07 pm

I have the apc40 and an hp notebook g60 ( with no firewire port ) I have about 200$ to spend on getting my laptop hooked up to a pa system and don't know what i need. Everything that ableton said i should get is firewire, do I need a firewire extension card? Also i would like to DJ and be able to cue with whatever device i need but the important thing is getting the laptop ready to plug into a pa system just like you would any other board. I have less than 2 week until I'm suppose to DJ a party and I'm starting to get a little nervous :roll, this is what I'm looking into so far....

http://audiomidi.com/audio-interfaces-C ... perPage=10< will these work if i have no firewire? extension card? will these work for cueing?

http://audiomidi.com/AudioFire-2-P8335.aspx Will the wires that plug into an amp fit into this? Will i need anything to get this plugged into my computer?

Sorry there's so many questions any help would be greatly appreciated

If you don't have Firewire, there are plenty of USB cards that are very suitable for DJing.

I have the Cakewalk/Edirol UA25EX, which is USB, two channels, and about 250USD, and it works great

Best of all with the current deal you get a free NI softsynth.

If you are using Ableton only, say using the Master out as your final out of Ableton, then you could set your master out to be channel 1/2. You set the cue out to 3/4. Use the head phone jack on the Kontrol and set it to 3/4, with your head phones for cueing. Run the 1/4 inch out of 1/2 on the Kontrol to the amps.

Then you can use Live's cueing buttons to pre-listen in the headphones.

Not that you really need it, but an Audio 8 DJ or something similar would give you more out's. In the long run you may want to run multiple outs.

I have an Alesis I/O 26 for sale if your interested in that.

You need to go into Live's preferences. Make sure your sound card is selected as the Audio Output Device. Then click the output configuration button. Another screen will pop up. If your soundcard supports multiple outs, you need to select those outputs. I would think you would be looking to select 1/2 stereo, and 3/4 stereo.

Once you do this, 3/4 will become an output option in your live set.

thanks so much for getting back to me, My audio kontrol is now acting as my soundcard i believe, and it has 1/2 and 3/4 output knob on it so it has to work but when i select the sudio kontrol in the audio output in ableton then press configure it has a 1(mono)and 2 (mono) button and a 1/2 stereo button and they both have to be selected. Your saying a 3/4 should be there?

hey man i actually got it and chose 1/2 stereo and 3/4, i set the cue to 3/4 and the master to 1/2 but i really dont know how to work it from here. when i press the button into 3/4 on the audio kontrol the sound comes out of my speakers when i press it to 1/2 it comes through the headphones?can i hear the song i want to bring in before it comes through the speakers and before i move the crossfader? also let it be known right now i only have computer speakers with a normal headphone jack plug in so i bought a 1/4 in converter so i could plug the speakers into my audio control, just to test out the cueing, and only the left sides of phones and speakers are working cause i dont know how to plug computer speaker into this interface, i can get speakers that would work cor
rectly if need be but i didnt think it would matter just to test out cueing. thanks for your help man ttys

ps this is my interface im workin with http://audiomidi.com/Audio-Kontrol-1-wi ... P8542.aspx

In Live, on the master channel, set the SOLO/CUE button to Cue. Now when yo7u click the Cue button for the Track you want to prelisten you should be able to hear it in the Headphones, as long as the Kontrol is set to 3/4 for the headphone jack.
