Ok folks, the Abe's have admitted to "something new" coming, and from the preferences panel in the new beta, it seems to be a new product. Alex has given us official blessing for speculation, so here we go.

I'll begin the speculations by guessing it is a vst synth, probably granular or with heavy granular capabilities. In any case, I believe it will something that operates within Live as opposed to a program that runs along side it.

Anybody else?

Anything new they come up with is welcome, as far as instruments go...I would like to see more MIDI effects...I would REALLY like some sort of quicktime movie support! If not now then soon huh pleeze?

mmm...interesting...

It must be somethin big-ish before they're dropping hints about getting it ready for NAMM...

yeah, could be another instrument of sorts, or video sync'n type of thing.

personnally, i'd love it to be dj-related (cause i'm selfish like that!)

something that would enhance Live even more from a dj point of view would be great (on the fly 2/4/8 traktor-type looping etc)

or...

dare i say it........ mp3 support......???

I wonder how much whatever it is is going to cost.

A full spec sampler to rival Kontakt only easier to use would be nice. A good sampler is better than most synths imo, but I've yet to see a SW one that'll make me part with cash.

Maybe they're going to come up with a choice of different plugins for varyingly different prices.

A bundle of good midi FX would be very nice, but being able to use 3rd party ones would be better.

There's a lot of things about Live 4 that I feel are unfinished, I'm going to be pretty disappointed if all they've been doing over the last few months is creating more 'product' instead of bringing the new midi stuff closer to a standard we had in 1990.

Ah well, speculation indeed.

from the monolake website

"In fall [2004] I spent most of the time working for Ableton to create something I am not allowed to tell you"

My guess is some traktor killer, or video sync support ala max/msp's jitter

I'm gonna feel almost disappointed if it's a standalone product like a synth or sampler - I like Live's self-contained nature - and I too don't like to think of Ableton's attention deviating from Live. But you never know...let's hope for a happy surprise; it seems the Abletons are more on top of their industrial secrets than Apple are these days! :)

Do you think we could get Alex to do a net streamed Steve Jobs presentation if we asked him nicely?

(Stuff rising out of the floor is good...)

I wanna be among the faithfull so I'd definately tune in :D :D

it's got to be a series of instruments surely?

like an add on collection of strange 'Ableton only' instruments.

maybe a sampler in there, that's more 'complex'.
maybe some fm/granular/digi-analog synths.

you could buy em seperate, or a package deal.

or.... they could give some of them away with the next release!?

yeah... so that's my speculation... a 'range' of instruments.

i dunno... i'm hoping maybe there is some free angle...

definately demo versions will be inbuilt into the program... then i guess you purchase the serial, and it unlocks.

i don't think the Abletons would charge loads of money for such things anyhow.... they're a nice company... yes?
