Expressive midi controller percussive pad like the Wavedrum?

Post by Lazos » Sun Dec 05, 2010 7:32 am

Anyone know of something like the Korg Wavedrum but just as a midi controller with no synthesis engine or onboard sounds?

Not just a drum pad controller with a set of 12 or 16 pads. I'm looking for something that has built in sensors for shock, pressure, aftertouch, etc. and has a one-drum head approach with areas of differing expressivity like the Wavedrum. Do any exist or is this a custom build thing?

Yeah, I've noted the Roland Handsonics, but thanks. I'm looking for something that doesn't use rubberized pads, though and is just a controller.

It looks like it might be a custom job. I've looked into sensor systems like this: http://eowave.com/products.php for building my own, but I'm uncertain how it might turn out as I've never built anything like this before. Anyone else have any ideas or thoughts on the subject?

Madrona Labs got the Soundplane under development. But its probably going to be pretty expensive: http://madronalabs.com/hardware

Dunno about your chances for a single head solution, but DrumKat is pretty cool.

Thanks guys. The Soundplane looks intriguing, but I would obviously have to wait for that.

I think I'm going to take the plunge and look deeper into Eowave's sensor systems. If anyone has any experience working with sensors, I'd love the advice.
