Automation - (Recording of in session view)

Post by Jip » Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:28 am

I like working in session view however it seems you can only draw in automation on clips (Is this correct?)

Example - using my SLMK2 controller (with automap) to change filter frequency on Bass patch from the Analog Instrument

What are the workarounds? Recording into session view and then bouncing the audio out?

Thanks guys....

Oh, here comes a new one that find it strange,
i add ya to my count you are the 10000th one and you won a vouncher...

the so known (ulra boring) workaround is to rec the parameter automation in arrangment, then select all the automation, go back
to session, pick the clip, display same modulation parameter, and paste back the enveloppe, then reset the
automation to full range in arrange.

when yall have done this for each clip, for each parameter and each track you will have forget what what your original
sound idea cause you will have spent one hour messing with that when it could have take 30s.

enjoy.

Gee thanks - not just me being stupid then?

It seems such a simple inclusion - there must be some core reason in the software why they can't add this if so many are requesting it!!

I have also found if you loop the section of automation you want in arrangement - you can copy go to session and then paste it as a whole clip....!

Where's my voucher then????"?? ;-)

Ignore that copy/paste trick - doesn't seem to work!

no you are not stupid, or we are all ;)

the clip copy would make this easy and logic, but implies booth session and arrange "clips" to be compatibles with same booth modulation and automation layers. If so we would be able to directly rec in session as well.

But yeah they ve chosen another completely stupid design at start, and never corrected their error, then claim it was too late,
need rewrite blabla, and in any cases they weren't motivated for rewrite, even if half of users requested that, since 2002.

now we may get it with L9, or never, who knows, we are in same darkness from those early ages
with not a single official statement from a few years..

ill give your voucher when automation to session will be there ;)

by waiting i give ya a free sticker i will troll in every automation thread until we get it:

what ?

recording into session view ?

why would you want to o that ? thats nonsense , you can only record automation in arrangement view , it gets all populated with little points all over the place , no bezier curves. why would you want them ?

recording in session view ? silly....

Clips record midi notes and continuous midi data (pitch bend mod and ccs)
Check the midi sheets for your vst and set your controller to the same value then move that knob while the clip is recording

I've been getting around it by doing the automation in arrangement, either in real-time with the mouse or clicking it in, then taking a sample of it and pasting that into an audio track. It can become a problem ending up with two tracks with the same instrument in session view though, but nothing too bad, just a little confusing sometimes, or it could take up more space than you would like if you are limited in tracks like I am.
