Good multi-effects guitar stomp box?

Post by beats me » Fri Dec 10, 2010 10:16 pm

Getting into some guitar noodling and am looking for a multi-effects stomp box because I want to mess with some things outside the computer environment. I would like it to be somewhat decent and recordable but as guitar isn't my main focus I don't want to drop a small fortune in an attempt to get the perfect sound. Also I don't want to fart around with a bunch of individual pedals.

So Line 6? Boss? models? other options?

Hm, looks interesting. But it looks like I would have to get another MIDI pedal board if I really want more access to turning specific effects on and off instead of just scrolling through presets.

An included expression pedal would be cool too.

Yeah but you should hear it. Dude uses 9 Amps too, including 2 Leslies.

However back to the original post. My band mate is perfectly happy with the Line 6 pod stuff. I think it sounds good too. He gets a lot of really wacky sounds out of it, along with some really solid standard sounds.

Keep an eye out for the M-Audio Black Box, it has the same type of efx on it (Linn was involved) and it comes with a separate pedal that can be programmed for expression too.

You can probably get one second hand, but has great sounds. I have one and it can also double as an audio interface!

I'm playing bass with a Line 6 M13 through a Marshall Amp, and also use it on the studio with synths, guitars, etc...
One thing is great is that you get all the stompboxes and no amp simulators or anything just effects.

I have a ZOOM G2 that I've been using for a couple of years. Very solid build and lots of parameters to tweak for your own sound. They cost around $99 i think. You can go here: http://www.haax.se/filesite/index.php?unit=G2Nu for an entire database of setups for different sounds.

I use the Boss GT-10. I absolutely love it! i have had most all the other MFX out there and this on has the best quality of FX IMHO

I don't think there's one better than the Boss GT-8. Has everything straight out of the box but also has so much depth to do a lot of interesting things. And, in my experience, it sounds better than the 10 and, in my opinion, it looks infinitely better.

Really? Can you run multiple delays in parallel? Can you control Abelton Live via the GT-8? Also modulate4d reverb, does the GT-8 have that?

If so then maybe it is almost as good as the GT-10.

expensive but kills POD, Boss, Digitech, Zoom, etc for tone, has a real valve. You might find it on sale as it's discontinued and rumours about a new replacement abound (maybe NAMM announcement in Jan).

I own a Zoom G2 and while it's good for it's money, it's not really that great a pedal overall, especially for moderate distortions or blues rock type overdrive, it does a reasonable high gain shredder Mesa Boogie type sound though if that's what you need ... cleaner sounds are OK, just a little bland.

On a smaller budget - the smaller, more compact Tonelab ST for $199 or less is excellent and still has a great range of amps (but less tweakability than the LE)

I use a line6 floor pod plus.
There are better units out there, but its cheap, and you can get a brilliant sound out of it if you bother to tweak it for a while.
The only thing I wish it had is a looper.
