Re: Griid/Cliip- iPad controller lets you get INSIDE clips

I am not sure whether I got all the details of the use interface, and I bought griid pro, but

I would love a horizontal and vertical silder that would allow me to control in fine steps the note duration and velocity of the last selected note, or notes.

I notice for me it takes quite some zooming in to control these when the clip gets more complicated.

Or is there any other tip from power users?

Hey everyone.

Here we go with something new and very exciting :D Not Griid this time, but another Ableton Live controller...

Kapture Pad

Check Part One of the vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZPekN-kghk
... and Part Two here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mun8igFskL0

Kapture Pad lets you take snapshots of your Live set and recall them with one tap. Global Snapshots store mixer and device parameters for all tracks and devices. Track Snapshots store all device parameters on that track and you can use quad-morphing to morph between then (an Ableton Live first!)

It's based on the Kapture Max for Live patch we gave away for free last year, but with an iOS interface and great new features like morphing (and more). Kapture Pad does not require Max for Live.

Kapture Pad will be available on the iTunes App Store on March 15th 2011.

Very much looking forward to seeing how people use this one!

That is awesome. That is so god-damn awesome. Holy F'n shit that is so damn awesome. I've been wanting this for years with Live, fussing about with program changes, frustration about not being able to do this kind of thing with live instruments, trying to use Kore with clips etc. But this just the shit. I had no idea you could actually build up your captured states on the fly and revert any time. This makes Live twice as useful. It also brings my iphone into the mix in a useful way for the first time. Well done folks.

If we can get global morphing of all tracks/devices? Oh my. Oh, oh my.

This will so useful for using a send effect as a multi-track 100% wet type effect, like a glitcher or general FSU effect because you can Kapture the state of having the sends cranked and the levels down and instantly recall that, as well as have different combinations of the tracks getting their full signal sent to the return tracks. So useful and elegant. Can't wait to play. I'm starting to feel very glad that I have Max for Live right about now, which I've hardly used at all so far.

Thanks for the feedback and enthusiasm guys!

I forgot to mention in the post (though it's in the vids) that Kapture Pad will go on the iTunes App Store on Tues 15th.

Glitchrock-buddha: I'm definitely very glad I have Max for Live too (I'm seeing some amazing stuff coming out right now), though Kapture Pad actually works without Max for Live. You can still grab the original Kapture for Max for Live free from http://liine.net though!

I haven't used the Max for Live one yet. Is it also possible with that to store snapshots on the fly? And how would one go about storing and recalling these snapshots from hardware using the Max Device?

Also, are the iphone and ipad apps sold separately from each other or do you buy it as one that works on either? And with the ipad morphing feature, do you still have the same install recall snapshot list as shown in the first iphone vid?

I'm starting to think I need to ipads. ;)

With the Max for Live version you press the "Kapture" button in the M4L GUI to store (you can then give it a name) and it adds it to a drop-down menu. You can then recall by selecting the snapshot from the drop-down. You can't "Kapture" remotely, but you can recall by triggering a clip with the same name as the snapshot in a track named "Kapture". This functionality is in Kapture Pad too.

Basically, Kapture Pad was built to feel really immediate. It's especially optimised for on-the-fly useage. So you can equally well be spontaneous and Kapture during a show, or do it as a preplanned thing before the gig. The morphing functionality is unique to iOS Kapture Pad.

You only need to buy Kapture Pad once, it will work on both iPhone and iPad. It's exactly the same feature set on both. I would genuinely say that the app is equally useable on both platforms - though of course, the full screen morph pad on the iPad feels REALLY nice :)

So with the ipad version, you don't need a track with clips specifically for recalling the snapshots then do you? In the video they seemed to be making them on the fly. Unless that's actually creating the clip on the fly?

You do not need the clips for recalling the snapshots, but you can use them if you want to!

Tap the 'Kapture' button to create a Global Snapshot. Recall this snapshot either by tapping it in the list on the iPhone/iPad or launch a clip with the same name in a track named 'Kapture Pad'. The choice is yours! Different methods for different usages, depends on your workflow.
