New Track: Feedback appreciated - Live Ambient

Post by beatific » Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:35 pm

The track is called Ambivelent I and can be streamed/downloaded from www.btinternet.com/~beatific

Lots of firsts for me in this track:

- it's my first ever ambient track
- it's my first complete track composed in Ableton LIVE
- it's my first ever track recorded/played live.

Words of warning - it's a little rough around the edges - a few clicks and pops and no post-production.

It is live in two aspects. I recorded live improvised loops and then used these loops to record a track in Live. So the original sonic ideas are created live and then the arrangement is performed live. No editing in either case.

I've had a mental block on finishing tracks since the birth of my son in February 2004 - so playing live and coming up with completed track like this has been a bit of a relief/inspiration.

What do you think of the end result?

Cheers

i dig it, did you create the ambient sounds live or is this from samples/softsynth?

cool track.

how and what did use to "play" the material live to record it and then play it Live?

sounds cool and congrats on the kid.

Thanks for the comments guys :)

I admit the bass does get all flabby and out of control - adjusting res and frequency live is a dangerous game!

The piece was done in Live 4 and all the sounds are VSTis - Albino, Reaktor, impOSCar and Rhino - improvised live using my KS4 as a keyboard/controller to create long evolving loops recorded straight into Live 4 session clips.

I then moved straight to the live arrangement phase, triggering clips as and when I wanted them, fading them, adding fx etc leaving a recording of my actions in the arrangement view. Render to disk and it was done. All in all I reckon it must have taken me about an hour - the bulk of this time being sound/patch selection.
