XLR Male Audio Cables To PC

Post by GDOGG » Mon Jan 10, 2011 6:02 am

Is it possible/worthwhile connecting XLR Male Audio Cables To PC. I've just ordered a pair of KRK Rokit 5s and I'm not sure which cables to go for. I asked a similar question earlier and someone said that I can use this cable to hook the two up, but how good is the sound quality etc? Image Also, I'm looking to get a mixer and want to know the best way to connect my krks to it

Any advice?
Cheers :D

By the cable you suggest, you don't have a soundcard?

To answer your question, it is possible but it isn't worthwhile. Unless your onboard soundcard is somehow top of the range.

Ordinarily once you get to the stage of having decent monitors you need a decent external soundcard as well. The soundcard connects to your PC via normal PC connectivity route such as firewire or USB and your monitors then connect to the soundcard.

You can purchase mixers that have onboard audio interfaces too if you want to kill two birds with one stone.

but, tbh, I wouldn't bother connecting your KRKs direct to the PC. no point.

What is your budget? do you need good preamps with it or you have separate preamp?

Yeah, you need to work out what you want to connect, mics, guitars, external midi kit etc. you already mentioned the mixer for example.

So budget and input output requirements are the key to narrowing down what you might fancy.
