over the years i've tried a few different methods, but always figured there had to be a better way.
1. hit record on transport, records automation and clips, save. go back and render out set as audio.
this method never ends up being live, because i have a tendency to go back and "fix" a few spots...
2. record master out into blank track and empty clip cell.
have run into hard drive issues with this method.
3. use external recording device.
pain in the... and not always available, requires hauling extra gear, buddying up with sound guy, etc.
would love to hear others techniques/experiences that are ultimately crash proof. i've not recorded the majority of my live sets in the past (and still don't) because i don't want to introduce any additional cpu strain to the existing live performance.

best way to record live set?
Studio setup: Atari 800 running Trax
Re: best way to record live set?
I use method 1, but when I get home, I open the set, highlight and render without touching anything... I save this as xxx_Live.wav
Of course I invariably pop back into the set and make a few little tweaks, then re-render as xxx_LiveEdit.wav and this is what I'll normally end up posting to soundcloud, burning to CD or whatever. But at least I have an untouched, actually live recording as well if I need it...
