Thanks for the link. I never owned or used an Emax, and I always wondered what working on one must have been like.

Seems like the opposite of real to me.

Like this dude wouldn't last a week living where his fake accent really comes from. Like he doesn't talk like this outside of the studio.

yeah man my thoughts exactly I was glad to come across it, I'd ask him to do a miniseries on it but right about now his priorities should be some heat.
most of our peers wouldn't have the patience or discipline to use that gear.
the results were creamy though

nothing personal student, I finally watched it, there's better out there. surely you do more with Live than that tweaker did in the video, right?

it's f-ing awesome up here. the weather for the last 2-3 weeks has been literally perfect. mid 60s very very slight breeze. been able to ride my bike 200+ miles a week, long rides, meeting lots of cool new people to ride with. me on the morning commute:

bored as hell at work. so it goes, sometimes bored, sometimes slammed.

I've got a love hate relationship with sf, love the town hate the prices. I had my most prolific moment one morning up there so when I think of ideal writing environments I always think of that morning.

as far as live vs the emax goes I've never used an emax extensively for writing music so definitely Live is more my thing but I've spent many a night trying to emulate that sound in Live to no avail.

you get used to sf prices over time. hella expensive but the quality of life is amazing.

more interesting video for sure. it's been a year or two since I've done a free form noisefest session like that. I should, it's good to just loosen up and play with your toys. I used to sit around and make regenerative ambient, those were fun.

keep digging, find those vids! youtube is a pretty epic media library.

here's an idea, sample that video and tweak out the sounds.

oh, as for 'that sound' that Dilla sound, I find that I just gotta try lots of samples. don't spend a day trying to make one sample work. spend a few days/weeks mining samples then go through them quickly, mash them up, pitch them around then throw them out. when one finally sticks start the project. in theory at least, the labels aren't knocking on my door.
