my pavillion is dieing. reccommend me a firewire laptop

Post by oddstep » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:26 pm

I've got a fw410, I play live, my hp laptop is getting seriously underpowered and just mashed. I have a lot of pc software so I don't want a mac. I am thinking about a sony vaio but i read that the firewire chipset may not be good enough for solid live performance. Whats the best I can get for between 600 and 1000 sterling?

None of the current run of consumer laptops have the coveted TI firewire chipset anymore. In fact few have firewire at all. Your best bet is to find one with a express card slot and use an adapter. Make sure the adapter itself has the firewire chipset (Startech and SIIG come to mind). This will not gaurantee flawless functionality unless the express card controller in the laptop is also a TI chipset. Whatever you do don't get another HP. :)

seems like a good time to get a laptop with a usb 3.0 port.
shouldn't be too long before companies start making interfaces for that.

also seems like a good time to ditch the m-audio interface, if you ask me.
