DJ Setup: Ableton + iPad + ?
DJ Setup: Ableton + iPad + ?
ok, so ive been messing around with TouchAble for the iPad to link up to Ableton, and it pretty much nails what a launchpad would do. yet, touchscreen still hasnt reached the accuracy of knobs. for example, raising and lowering the autofilter sounds really jerky with an ipad compared to knobs. so, what is the missing piece to this potential DJ setup. a straight up mixer (pioneer, xone), a USB mixer (vestax), or simply a controller with knobs (nanoKontrol). yes, I know it's all personal preference, but I would like to hear YOUR preferences. Thanks!!!!

With my Ableton setup, I use a Novation Remote 25 SL for knobbage, and a Launchpad for buttonage.
I do have two Xone 1D controllers, but I've not tried them with Live (yet).

i actually have a novation remote 25 sl as well, but here in miami, it just doesn't feel right controlling with a keyboard....ive just never really seen it done around here...102455 wrote:With my Ableton setup, I use a Novation Remote 25 SL for knobbage, and a Launchpad for buttonage.

do you use it to DJ or produce--or both?

Novation Zero SL, great piece of kit works great with iPad and/or Launchpad! Faders and will control most items in Live when you click on them.
iMac, MacBook Pro, Ableton Live 8 Suite,Ableton PUSH Komplete 8, Logic Studio,Launchpad x 2, iPad (Lemur), M-Audio Keystudio, Akai MPD18, ...

I prefer to use the more 'traditional' DJ software and controllers for DJing, as I grew up through the vinylbluehen wrote:do you use it to DJ or produce--or both?
and CD years so I'm used to working 'on the fly' rather than preconfiguring stuff.
I don't play 'sets' or beatmatch everything, as most of my work now is general parties and weddings - not clubs.
The 25SL gets used for producing with Live, Cubase, Acid & Reason.
