Studio monitors
So I will be practicing mixing and producing im thinking the krk 6s with a krk 10 do they sound good, should I go for somthing else?
Re: Studio monitors
I think that combination does sound good, it's quite popular with DJs and so on.
However I've heard from those "in the know" that the KRKs aren't the most neutral speakers for producing with as they're engineered to sound good rather than sound accurate, then again they're pretty popular, so I'm not sure.

Re: Studio monitors
There is always a lot of debate about monitors but to me the key is knowing how they reproduce sound so you can compare your mixes to professional mixes of a similar ilk.
That way if they colour the sound or not you can still a/b them against pro mixes and adjust accordingly. Sure it's ideal to have perfect neutral monitors but you can spend an arm and a leg and it wont make much difference to your mixes to start with. a/b your stuff, use your ears and know you have to make certain adjustments to compensate for the shortcomings and bias of your monitoring set-up. By moniroting set-up I mean the monitors, the room, the furnishings the whole system that effects what you actually hear as you mix.
IMO, avoid the sub woofer to start with. It will simply make you over do your bass.

Re: Studio monitors
i have had the KRK 6,s and other like adam a7 etc
but now i only use Genelec a pair of 8030,s and a pair of 6010. They both sound better by far to my ears than the KRK,s
Don,t be put off by the small size of the 6010,s they are superb and Liam howett from the prodigy uses them when on tour apparently to check his sound off the stage.

Re: Studio monitors
..Blue Sky Audio's are worth a look at too, (If you want some subs thrown in)
..or sell your soul for some Event Opals..

Re: Studio monitors
I'm surprised nobody has asked about the space you'll be using them in...if you've got quite a small room with little treatment, I'm guessing KRK6s and a sub might be overkill...
but there are quite a few people here who know waaaaaaaay more about this stuff than I do.

Better monitors will give u more detail and a better sound stage. Save up because if u buy cheap uend up buying twice.
Re: Studio monitors
^ I'm guessing by his forum name that its a ...bedroom?
lol
That then begs the question; if this is an American Bedroom (Like two footbal pitches)
Or English: like a bleedin' shoe box!
(I had to build a farkin 11' by 13' conservatory as my modest house is just a load of poxy shoe boxes thrown together and the wife wants to use the front room for the TV n sofa's n shit...)

Re: Studio monitors
Yes, be cautious with the sub. I have the volume on mine turned up just barely and even then I think it's too loud at times.
Re: Studio monitors
I will be in a bedroom. What do u mean by a/b my mixes? I use traktor scratch pro, two tech 12 m5gs a djm 700 and an oxygen 8 midi controller to control 4 decks. Do u mean compare my mixes to somone of a similar style, im still new to mixing, I have always been a turntablist. I want sound quality and acuracy more than anything. The sub I just figured would be nice cause I love bass haha.
Re: Studio monitors
I use ableton to produce, id like to get an apc 40 master fallow mode... And dose anyone know if mlr for apc is good? Monomes cost alot haha.

Re: Studio monitors
The back of a sofa can house a nice subwoofer. Its all about the planning.
Re: Studio monitors
Well I dont know what to go with, some guy on a review sais the genelec 6010A's are crap... I might just go with the krks as im using them more for mixing later I guess I could spend alot on studio monitors... Honestly tho for just my bedroom producing here and there and dj'ing just the krk 6s no sub?
