Cant get a VST to load? please help

Hey im trying to install a VST (specifically biroidstudios Creakbox)
im trying to run it on mac osx but when I download the file it downloads as a ".sit" and opens as text in "textedit"...

not sure if this is a stupid question or not but i would really appreciate some help

Thanks mate I downloaded that and it converts it to .vst and opens it with "AudioUnit Scan" but when i try to install it it just says Scan completed successfully but it wont show up as a actual synth and i cant get it to load in Ableton even though I put it in my plug in folder?? any ideas?.. thanks for the help!

In which folder did you put it?

You can either put it into

/Users/YourName/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/
(for you only)

or

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/
(for all users)

In Live, press "cmd" + "," go to the file/folder tab and click on the button to rescan the plugin folder. If it does not appear afterwards in your plugin devices list, it's either 64bit, corrupt or for the wrong cpu architecture (iirc powerpc vsts do not work on intel based systems).

I'm afraid this plugin is so old that it doesn't support Intel based Macs... so it wont work on any Mac manufactured since 2006 or so...
