My interpretation of Jimi Hendrix:

I kinda think he might play it like that if he were still alive.

Whut no Steve Hillage? Utterly original guitarist, the greatest British guitarist to tread a stage (in my humble, but knowledgeable opinion). Technically superb, with an ability to play over the changes that you just don't hear outside a tiny number of the very best jazzers out there. Check out 'L' or Green for some of the most exciting guitar ever, and bear in mind this stuff was recorded in 76 and the stuff he was making was years ahead of it's time.

And mad as a hatter to boot.

scutheotaku wrote: But who speaks of his "profound originality?" And a better question - HOW was he original? What style did he come up with? And please don't say the extended guitar solo again...
Simple, he used a fuck ton of feedback, more than any other guitar player at the time. He played with any new box or foot pedal that came out, he was obsessed with distortion and overdrove his rig harder than anybody else did in 1966. he used anything he could to make the guitar wail etc. He often did solos that were basically just extended feedback sound FX which was definitely not happening in the mid sixties. What was original about Hendrix wasn't his blues and later stages, but his earlier hard rock stage, and mostly the live performances. Later on he felt he had gone too far away from black music, and that he was alienating black audience members, and toned down the freak out routine and started playing more familiar R&B style stuff.

This is all common knowledge, which begs the question of how old are you? Seriously, you're naming Mike McReady etc. as "good" guitar players, and find nothing original in Hendrix? Plus, just to really fucking sink it home you name Jimmy Page as original, when Page stole all of the Lemon Song, Dazed and Confused, plus MASSIVE amounts of riffs from other players. Look it up on the interwebs, Page is a plagiaristic jerk who never paid the musicians he flat out stole the songs from..... Just a hint, the real creative genius in Zepplin was Jones IMO, plus Bonham was a monster.

I'm also not a huge Hendrix fan, just the first two records and live stuff, but anybody who thinks his version of the Star Spangled Banner isn't original and beautiful to me has no soul.

Hmm. I'd say Léon Theremin was a total original. Not only did he invent a new instrument, he had to invent a brand new technique around that instrument. Yes, Theremin. The original's original. :P

Oh, and I can't find one book or article ever written with the title "Jimi Hendrix: Overrated, Not a Genius, and Certainly Not Original".

Funny though, everyone appreciates what he did, but yet you are always hard pressed to find anyone that really likes his stuff.

Personally, can't stand the guys music, but then goes for Clapton too...and well, most of them really.

you insult music with your statements ..and the intelligence of the people that have to read this statements..

but you are wright.. your unability to understand originality is a handycap one shouldnt make jokes of..its rather sad.

But you are not alone with that.. i ve heard that they have a big stick removing center where thousends with similar problams gather...somewhere in utah..maybe you should go there?
