LOL that the first thing people are saying is how original Hendrix was, not just people, other musicians. LOL at the FACT that three or four black musicians are quoted as saying that the Band of Gypsies (Hendrix's all black band) was way more accepted by the black audience, that they would listen to his later stuff first, then maybe the Experience stuff.
Scutheotaku, you seem to have a particular beef against Hendrix, otherwise you wouldn't try to downplay all the experimentation he did. Are You Experienced was released in 1967, the band had been together for about a year, and again the main difference in Hendrix's playing to other guitar player was that feedback was played. You named guitar players you like that influenced you, fine, not one of them is an innovator, Hendrix is.

Whether you like them or not a quick short unfinished list of innovative guitar players.

Hendrix,
Eddie Van Halen,
Tony Iomni
Robert Frip,
Chuck Berry.

This has nothing to do with influence on you, but on guitar playing as a whole, these guys changed the playing field, they were original. ;)
