Acer Iconia Dual-Touchbook

Post by kost4 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 8:44 pm

Has anyone already tested this thingy with ableton?

Iconia is, at its heart, a Core i5 laptop with familiar specs: up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, integrated Intel graphics, a hard drive up to 750GB, and Windows 7 Home Premium. Ports are also typical for a high-end laptop: two USB 2.0, one USB 3.0, HDMI, and VGA.

No physical keyboard sucks. I depend on a lot of keyboard shortcuts. I would hate to have to look to make sure my fingers were on the virtual keys correctly before hitting ctrl-c or ctrl-y. Where is the shift key? Over there somewhere. Do not recommend.

for me no problem because I use a bt-keyboard.

anyway... i think of the usabilty in live-performing, using the the grid as step-seqencer to touch, "turning" the knobs and so on....

on a apc40, launchpad etc. there is no ctrl-c and ctrl-v either.

Good points. Though, I don't trust myself in a live setting to touch the correct track without accidentally dragging something out of place or starting the wrong clip or worse. I like the digital feel of a qwerty keyboard, and some glowing buttons.

Its a cool concept.. I just really dont like Acer!

So, I rather wait to this gets evolved a bit. Acer laptops fall apart. The screen, everything. They are noisy, and they get so hot, they crash. At least that's my personal experience. Lenovo Thinkpad is a world apart in quality. Silent, cold and solid.. :)

There was a time, not long ago, that Ablenerds would dream aloud about notebooks like this.

I think it's cool how it opens and folds down completely flat.
