iLok totally sucks - no?

I recently bought Antares Auto-Tune. I did not know it needed iLok. It is an additional expense to me of $49.00.

I totally understand and support the right to protect intellectual property and I hate crackz. However, Antares could simply provide a dongle in the box - problem solved.

I think the whole thing sucks and I had trouble logging in and getting an iLok account. It was buggy as hell.

Your experience?

Don't most products come with the eLok now? The electronic version of the iLok? I have 2 things that have the eLok...works like a charm

Been using iLok for 5 years or so. Haven't had any technical issues using plugins, adding licences, transferring licences. Handy when you want to change computers. I like it.

I'm with milfhuntr on this. Thought I understand its purpose I think iLok is obsolete and belongs to another era.

I already used an iLok for my plugin licences (had no choice back at that time) and I really hated it, although I never had problems with it. Updating the iLok, taking care of it, not forgeting it anywhere, etc. I also hated to have to plug the thing into one of my usb ports everytime I wanted to use just one single plugin, even for just a little session. No iLok, no access to my plugins. Not my thing, I sold it and use registred licences instead, and I'm a happy guy since!

+1 - unlike that fucking aweeful system satanberg came up with / use that sometimes randomly decides to pretend to have forgotten *all* of your licenses when you add a new one - Grrrr.

Yeh - I know now you have to uninstall and reinstall the damn thing and that usually fixes it - still hate their flakey junk.

I've never had a problem with iLok. The last thing I'd describe it as is buggy. It takes a USB slot yes, that is quite annoying when playing live, at home I just use a USB hub. Any inconvenience for me is probably offset by the fact that I'd like to get a new computer soon, and re-authorizing all of my software will be a nightmare, except for the ones that use iLok.

Yeah, when are they gonna realize that more and more musicians are using laptops with limited USB count??? And hubs don't help of course.
I had to buy a docking station and still can't have all my USB devices hooked up. I need to hook up MIDI interface, Guitar Rig controller, APC40, Samplitude dongle, a mouse, external harddrive, and access to USB Flash drives, all that to my two USB ports(well, four with a docking station).
And that is the reason i never bought Korg Legacy Collection.
This protection method is stupid. But, at least Magix include their dongle with their software.

Just FYI, the legacy collection doesn't use a dongle (or pace software) anymore.

Dongles are evil.

Evil evil evil evil evil.

I will never, ever use software that requires one again.

IMO

Too many = greater than one

(but then I don't count Reaktor as a soft synth  )
