Free electronic music production videos, tutorials etc...???

Post by Ill Frequencies » Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:18 am

Does anybody know of any good sites where I can find some decent tutorials about electronic music production?
Or any good books I can purchase that specify in electronic music production?
I have hit a brick wall and don't know what I am doing :/ Wasting so much time and achieving nothing.
Would love to do a proper paid course but bit too expensive for me at the moment.

I have watched a lot of youtube videos but im up to a point where I need to go beyond what is shown in all the tutorials.
And it is hard to find quality production tutorials on youtube. It kinda gets to a point where its all just the same...

There are a few threads already on this topic, you could try the search function. Here's one:

I recommend the Heatercore series, no videos just text. The guy did one tip a day for 365 days, finished now but it was quite good. Start from the beginning or just check out the one's that interest you.

Mr. BIll's Tunes & Tom Cosm are among many excellent Ableton oriented video series out there.

Sound On Sound is by far the best and most technical music production magazine. It is a fantastic resource and the online subscription is quite affordable, a bargain actually because you get access to all previous issues and articles. Endless knowledge.

In terms of mixing, I really liked "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski.

Tone Deft swears by the Bob Katz books also. He mentions one in this thread about "The Dance Music Manual" by Rick Snowman.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope some of that helps. Good luck :)
