ADAT is for ADAT. It's a legacy connection.RoCi wrote:the ADAT on the fireface, do you connect that to the optical in and out on a mac pro?

you dont need to use the adat conection for your mac..that is to hook on other external gear that supports the adat protocol like A/D converters that provide more in channels or digital mixing desks.. digital multichannle fx aso..
all audio from your laptop is going thru the firewire connection to the fireface

unless it's the Fireface UC which has a USB connection or the Fireface UFX which has both USB and firewire connections.3phase wrote:better dont get schooled by somebody from seatle

I don't need to be snide, but ADAT connects to an ADAT recorder/player.
I remember I used to see them in Musician's Friend 10 years ago. They are used for mastering. I think they used like 24 bit data tapes or something. Not 100% positive but I'm sure wikipedia knows for sure

Re: excuse my question but..
sigh...
ADAT lightpipe (which is what the fireface has) is NOT the same as an ADAT tape or tape player.
ADAT lightpipe on your fireface is used to connect an extra 8 inputs from another source that supports the connection.
The Toslink connections on your Mac Pro use the same physical connectors, but they are not compatible with the ADAT lightpipe connections on your fireface.

There is no issue then. Read manuals.
