anyone have a similar trick for live?
No, because ableton's rudimentary's piano roll lacks any of these features, like cut.
with ableton's piano roll you can only add or delete notes , oh , and quantize...
so , not really...
Re: Music Theory Cheating
not gonna watch a 9 minute video with that guy talking in it.
the scale plug in goes a long way to cheating music theory. focus on working with Live rather than thinking in terms of FL and using Live. mold around the available tools.

Re: Music Theory Cheating
Nice video. Not much "music theory" there though. I've always liked the array of tools in FLS' midi editor. I think they come in real handy for prototyping music.
Would be nice if something like this would be added to Live as well.

mold around the available tools ?
whoaa.... thats a great way to think to improve this software...
word up!
Re: Music Theory Cheating
i only watched half of the video but from what i saw it's not so much "music theory" cheating as it is "piano playing" cheating.

Re: Music Theory Cheating
that was exactly my thought, it is in no way cheating music theory, because he built up a chord progression, and then just chopped it up to make those runs.kanuck wrote:i only watched half of the video but from what i saw it's not so much "music theory" cheating as it is "piano playing" cheating.
Re: Music Theory Cheating
Same. Watching that, I was thinking about how, even with all its quirks and lackings, I enjoy Live's piano so much more than FL's.As a side note - ugh, I can't stand FL Studio's piano roll/editor...it's SO slow to use (at least for me)
Re: Music Theory Cheating
Live is better than FL Studio for many reasons but the piano roll is definitely not one of them.agent314 wrote:Same. I’d even go as far as saying that FL’s piano roll is pretty cool.
Re: Music Theory Cheating
Yeah I only used that as the forum title cause it's the name of the video, and also eye catching .

Re: Music Theory Cheating
hahahaahah
live piano roll fatser ? with flstudio u use one tool to edit : left mouse adds, moves and select notes, right mouse button deletes then, middle mouse button pans
with live you have to double click to add a note, double clicking for every single note is twice a slow than simple clicking..
with live to add many notes one after the other on the you have to switch to the pencil tool, then if you want to move those you have to switch back to the select tool, some of you may say , im used to switching back and forw , but is better not having to.
fl piano roll is just better , faster and more advanced. period.

I just like Live's better. Even if the toolset isn't as robust, I prefer using it to using FL's by a long ways.

about just clicking to add a note, yes in pencil mode, but if you need to move ,you gotta switch , back and forw...
anyway those features would really rock to have them...
Re: Music Theory Cheating
I could imagine you could get similar results by doing this:
draw in your chord notes into a empty midi clip, copy them up and down some octaves, then choose "Fold" to eliminate all other notes that are not in your chord. then draw in your piano rolls... unfortunately you can only draw the same consecutive notes but not ascending/descending by moving the mouse up right while holding the mouse button in draw mode.
