need operator for drum rack?
when i try to drag some drum instruments into the drum rack, it tells me that i need the product Operator to do this?? some will drag in the rack, and some say i need operator.
anyone know why?
doesn't seem like i would need Operator to drag drum instruments into the drum rack...

Re: need operator for drum rack?
If your using Live 8 and not Suite 8 there are presets for all the instruments, even the ones u do not own. Some you can use but cannot edit, others you cannot use at all. If you are attempting to drag something that uses operator onto a track or drum rack pad, and you don't own operator then you will get that error.

Re: need operator for drum rack?
so would you suggest that i acquire operator or upgrade to suite?
i'm pretty new at ableton, but i'm looking to make electronic beats and i'm finding limitations/difficulty on finding sounds samples..

Try "Repair Library" in the Live preferences - this should "clean out" presets that require any add-ons.justinwcharles wrote:when i try to drag some drum instruments into the drum rack, it tells me that i need the product Operator to do this?? some will drag in the rack, and some say i need operator.

Re: need operator for drum rack?
that would seemingly further limit my sound samples. for ex, where can i get good kicks for house music? do i have to buy a drum machine and record a kick, then drag it into a drum rack?
sorry for my noobism ;\

Besides the drum sounds that come with Live 8, there are a few free packs you could check out for more drums:justinwcharles wrote:that would seemingly further limit my sound samples. for ex, where can i get good kicks for house music? do i have to buy a drum machine and record a kick, then drag it into a drum rack?

There's lots of places to get drum samples. I use a lot of Vengeance samples. Although they're not free, they are worth the $ IMHO. I layer all my kicks and snares too.
Another option is to sample single hits from others' tracks.
You could also synthesize your own kicks and other drum sounds if you were so inclined.
Since drums are one of the main elements in my music I spend a lot of time building kits (racks) and processing them.
Just google free drum samples, I'm sure you'll find a bunch.
Torrentz? (Just sayin)
