M-Audio Venom

Post by Theo Void » Wed Apr 06, 2011 1:49 am

Anyone check this thing out yet?

I mean it's no virus but I think I might grab one.
Then again, Massive+Axiom is working pretty well for me.

Any thoughts?

Still need to use a software editor to program it, thats a hardware fail IMO.

Pretty good sounding for the price, but BAD realtime control, to the point where I had to re trigger the note to hear a knob change take effect (= no filter sweeps unless preprog'd via an LFO). Must have a computer to edit it too. I would be alright for a budget studio only sound module though. Check the Sonic State video review for a balanced look at it.

Biggest mmmmmeeeh.. in the near history of hardware synthesizes :D
Who in earth would want to have a VST that is tied to an hardware but still needs the computer for real programming.. I would go with roland gaia or novation ultranova.

M-Audio, you are doing it wrong!

WOW. So theres no real-time control over the parameters that are changed. Ya, that's weak as hell. I also agree about the editor. Guess there's really no difference between my Massive/Axiom combination.

Thanks for all your opinions. I knew that it wasn't a game-changer or anything, I just liked the sound it produced. Sorta, dark-gritty, bit-crushed type sound. But over-all it's probably not worth it.

That said, I do want to get some kind of hard-ware synth. I don't have the cash for analog or anything major but what are some good Modelled synths.

Alesis Micron is pretty bad ass for the price. Maybe a desktop evolver too if you don't need keys.

I concur with all the MEH in this thread.
M-Audio, where is the vision? Where is the innovation?
