Waves plugins for poor people!

Got news letter from waves yesterday about their latest offer and got quite excited to the point that I almost smashed one off the wrist
You can see the offer on their front page under the heading 'super specials' here is the link. http://www.waves.com/
I thought this was good as they usually go for alot more!

I need some help from you guys to help me make my choice. I've narrowed it down to either: Renaisance EQ, Renaisance compressor or IR-L but don't know which one to get.
My style of music is progressive house and techno. I have the psp vintage warmer, old timer, micro warmer so I have some colouring compressors all be it a limited selection so renaissance compressor would have to do something that the others don't to choose that but I have no colouring EQ only lives own and I have no convolution reverb only what is in kontakt3 which means everything has to go through that which is a pain.

So anyone using any of these I'd like to hear your advise. Thanks 8)

none.
Renaissance waves plugins have nothing special. there are indeed transparent but I'll go for fabfilter plug-ins then.

Yes the fabfilter stuff is really good I have demoed them but for the price tag of the waves offer I'd rated go for one of them during these current economic difficulties.

I would rather buy something worth buying than something for the sake of it - regardless of how much it costs

Save your money and buy something you know you need, rather than something you think you might

So is it all shit then? And not worth having for £23?
I know I need sweetening/mixing tools as I'm happy with my synths.
It's just that I've heard good things about renaissance stuff?

The SSL series is Hot! and i think Waves plugins are really some of the best on the market, the price is high but quality costs a bit more............ 8)

So do you have any experience with the plugs on offer if so what do you think about them?

yes indeed they are good plugs, nice and simple and for the money you wont get much better if at all, get the one you need the most, having said that imo an eq is an eq, i would get the comp

They're good, but I sold my Waves stuff and replaced it with Fabfilter and Stillwell stuff.

The renaissance stuff is very old now - doesn't matter in terms of sound (they're still nice of course), but I find the UIs cramped and dated. A lot of people don't care about that, but there are other plugins that sound as good, are easier to use and don't have annoying copy protection.

If you're looking for sweetening tools, check out the Stillwell 1973, Vibe EQ, Rocket, Major Tom and Bombardier (a magical bus compressor). I use the Schwa CMX a lot for widening things in the mix too. They have tons of character and they're incredible value.

And IMO the Fabfilter Pro-Q is the best paragraphic EQ ever.

Thanks for bringing stillwell to my attention. I'd never heard of them before and they seem well priced if they are as good as you say! I will demo these for sure before making my decision.

Most of the Waves gear is absolute top quality; for some reason alot of people knock it, probably most have never even used their plug-ins. The SSL channel strip is better than good.

out of those 3 I would take IR-L - it's a decent convolution reverb, especially if you download some good impulses like the Briscati ones, and at that price it's a no brainer.

The Renaissance stuff is modelled on the Pultec gear and is intended to specifically colour the sound in the way that gear did, so it's more a case of whether you want that sound.

But if you are picking one of those 3 definitely go the IR-L.
