How to get MAX for live to work with Live 8.2.1?

I still use Live 8.2.1 because 8.2.2 crashes a lot. I read that Max 5.1.3 is the right version for Live 8.2.1 and I installed it, but Live won't automatically detect it. When I navigate to Program Files>Cycling '74>Max Runtime 5.0 (where Max was installed) Live pops up an error message saying it finds no usable version in the location I specified.

i just bought max4live last week and i am sure you need 8.2.2, as for it being more unstable i do not find that at all.Its usually and errant plugin that causes problems

It was a project with 4 tracks, only audio, only Live's own plugins and it crashed twice, consecutively while saving the project and a few times while I was auditioning samples in the browser. Live 8.2.1 almost never does this.

The step sequencer will only work with 8.2.2....

the apc sequencer patch that well could have been part of the main program ? quite expensiv software sequencer patch... hope you will have more use from m4l than just that

wasn't there supposed to be (at least) a new beta by now ?
