so ive found this one which seems good

then i can use my old hard drives etc and im off,

or would it be cheaper to buy the cpu, motherboard on its own and build it up
or get someone else to build it up?

i need to upgrade and keep it low cost !

any advice would be welcome, apart from the buy a mac comment

Building your own computer is way easy. It's basically "insert tab A into slot B" for the most part. The tricky thing is selecting parts that play nicely together.
If you have no experience, sure go for the barebones. If not, it's easy enough to source parts. Here's a build I'd recommend:

CPU: Intel I5
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-blahblahblah
RAM: Crucial 2x2 GB
Video Card: Radeon 4650 (you could probably go even cheaper with this since the machine is only for audio)
Case: Antec Sonata.
PSU: Seasonic makes a good PSU. Don't skimp on the PSU because a shitty PSU will fry your computer. You want around 500 watts. Make sure it has the right connector for your video card. (probably a 6 pin thing)

All that shit should come to around $500, or GBP 300ish if you shop around. It's a little cheaper than the barebones system you linked, and a little more powerful.

Yeah I think buying separate could be the best way
And if it's faster then all the better,

It's a shame the novatech website doesn't have a section
Where you can choose your parts and the site makes sure all is comparable,

I was always told to get an intel board to run with the intel chip as it will run smoother?

Ive checked out some parts myself , I'll post and see if I'm on the right path to a good pc

+1 for Antec. Best cabinet I ever had, and its very very silent.
Most newish graphic cards would do you good. But id suggest looking for one without a fan. A silent one. If you want to play games, you could find some fan-less that works fine. But you will not get the hardcore game cards very silent!

Gigabyte is a good motherboard brand. Just go for the big brands with good reputation, and you are safe. Same goes with ram. You don't need the bleeding edge, you want best bang for the buck, imo.

If you can afford it: a small ssd system disk, and a big as hard drive!

I recommend buying the quietest CPU cooler. The stock coolers that come with CPUs are really loud, like a hair dryer. I bought a quieter cooler after I already built my PC, so I had to take it apart again to put it in. This site recommends the most quiet CPU coolers. http://www.acousticpc.com/

im a little unsure on my ram choice to suit my MB not sure what im looking for,

another option you could look into is a local shop
last time i built up a pc i compared the prices local
and some where cheaper then the net some a little more..
it all balanced out so i placed the order
they offered to build it up for an extra 50 bucks
i was like hells ya..
saves me the time plus they would bench test and deal with any DOA's quickly.

and ya what planet said.. dont skimp on the PSU,
The PSU and case is something you can last you years as everything else gets upgraded again and again.

many thanks ill give that a try there is a new pc shop opened near me,
but last time i tried this the shop was more expensive than online,

but i did take all parts to the shop to get it built as its faster and around £40
