Unless it's an ultra-new release, buying used CDs on half.com is WAY cheaper than buying MP3s most of the time. :P

btw.. this one is obvious but im also predicting the death of the desktop/ laptop computer within 5 years.
it will be replaced by another resurrection of our good old friend the television. but the tv will be more like an ipad.

edit*
im going to take the 5 year prediction and replace it with 10. technology seems to be moving at turtle speed lately.

today 5/30/2011 the cd has died.
its remnants can still be found like remnants from a mass explosion but its way too toxic to touch.
and you don't even want to morn the loss because it was like an evil dictator.
this is a celebration! :)
Ironically today I was gathering all my CDs to do one last cross reference with my digital collection to make sure I had not missed anything. Then they will be off-loaded somehow. Sign of the times I guess…

Totally. I like having the physical product (collectors mentality) although its very difficult to find any good CD,s @ the record shops unless you pick it up when the CD is first released. So now i pretty much order online (Bleep, Amazon, etc.) That goes with DVD,s as well.

I only ever really buy them as gifts for Luddite friends who haven't caught up with the digital age yet.

I haven't bought one for myself in about 4 or 5 years.

I haven't bought any CDs since a few years now - and also I've stopped producing any CDs since about four years or so.

All non-tangible (non-physical) digital domain now.

Agree, CD and all disk related formats should die NOW.

Music and movies can be bought (and rent) anywhere in the web.
(with a click you can find what you want, with one more you can have any track/band info, lyrics etc)

Files can be backed up to the cloud or to external storage for $0.0X per GB
(Triple backup in 2x2TB HD or a wall of cds/dvds?)

Operating systems and big programs/games can be easily delivered to USB-3 or e-sata-3 sticks.

Car sound devises, hifi systems, TVs and everything these days can load files from USB.

PC CD players are the last mechanical components (now with the SSDs) together with the case fans. Are slow to read and very often they dont read at all (especially old cdr-dvdr), they make noise and they put weight, size to PC/laptops (+ they screw the airflow).

CDs are a waste time, space and money and i cant wait to see them die completely.

I dont buy CDs. Spotify, Beatport & iTunes has killed that for me. Its just so much convinient to buy digital music: click click -> download -> win.
My GF buys them though.. she has hard time to give up from the cover art and the feeling of having lots of records in a shelf.. :D

As long as FOPP keeps selling out of chart CDs for £5 I'll keep buying them.

for new releases I'll generally "Home Tape" from a friends copy - I'm ashamed to say.

haven't bought one in a long time.

the only thing I used them for is because the car has a 5 disc changer, but I just burn them for that.

I buy albums on iTunes though - honestly I've rarely if ever thought their quality was bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of the music.

What actually ruins my music enjoyment more is knowing how the bastards did it.

I was talking about this topic with some friends the other day and realized I hadn't bought a CD since the '90s.
