mac osx lion and its effects on LIVE
hey there i am rather new to LIVE, so i haven't been through the whole "NEW OSX" thing yet......
rumor is, apple is going to release "LION" next week....my question is, when apple went from tiger to leopard to snow leopard...did it effect how LIVE acted? should we expect issues after upgrading to LION?
i know this might be an idiotic question, and i hope most of you take it easy on me.

Never upgrade to a new OS until at least 6 months after it's release.
But a bunch of retards will do it anyway and then we get to hear them whine about it. Looking forward.

developers have had access to lion since December (at least that's when the news first started reporting on it). I have a feeling the first 30 days will be a bit shakey but i'm with beats me, if you're running fine give it 3-6 mos before you jump ship especially if you perform live w/ your machine.
Re: mac osx lion and its effects on LIVE
And lets not forget the current state of Live for a good amount of people already. I don’t think you want to toss in a new OS as a possible new problem.
Just sayin’

oh yeah...not planning on being an idiot just quite yet..im doing alright with snow leopard...and lion doesn't look like it is one of those "run right out and buy it" type of things....just curious...

I've tested Ableton Live on Lion and it seems to run fine...
Mac Studio M2 Max and MacBook Pro M1
Genelec M030; Live 11.3.x and Live 12; macOS Sonoma
UAD Apollo Twin
Ableton Push 2
Genelec M030; Live 11.3.x and Live 12; macOS Sonoma
UAD Apollo Twin
Ableton Push 2

Upgrading to Leopard was a major pain in the ass for me. I won't be upgrading to Lion until I buy a new computer in a year or two.

I've always upgraded OS's the day Apple releases them, can't remember ever having a single issue with music apps doing so.

My breath smells of Steve Jobs' asshole and I'm still not going to jump on Lion anytime soon. It looks like some major changes were made and I don't know if I'm ready for it. Something as simple as not thumbnailing my porn stash instantly will throw me into a rage.
Re: mac osx lion and its effects on LIVE
IMHO - wait until the dust settles on Lion.
Being a beta tester/ early adopter is great.. if your getting paid or got the time to trouble shoot.
As really... unless a new OS will bbq me a perfect rare steak and make my music sound like Juno Reactor... the upgrade benefits are negligible.
I still prefer running an OS behind... behind the rush = avoid the crash.
My G5 with Tiger was just as productive as this Quad with Snow (came installed.
The transition was seamless... but I never felt the 'Wow.. life is so much better with snow leapard".
I did feel that going to Tiger from OSX 3.

2.8ghz Quad Mac, Live 9.77, Remote25, Maschine 1, Fa-66 optical link, Samson 65a. Dog hair.. lots.

+1 Beats Me... everything he said. Everything
O k.. just took a look at Lion..
FML.. everything about the Ipad on your Mac.. fuk dat.
I've already had to help too many people out with their iphone, ipad bullshat.
New features look geared for the mentally crippled.
Resume? Great.. now my buddies can call me at 3am with the
"my mac is sluggish but I restarted and its still sluggish"
and then i have to tell them to quit half the shiz they have open so their CPU can breath.
Looking Forward to the Chaos.

How much? With external soundcards/hardware/new drivers/heavy disk access/CPU/memory usage, etc?cids wrote:I've tested Ableton Live on Lion and it seems to run fine...
I'm not gonna rush out and buy it instantly, but would be nice to know where we stand with current stability etc. If it does new shiny stuff AND is proven to work well with Live then there's not a huge point in waiting (dependant on the initial filling up of the Ableton forum with Lion problems).
Would be nice to hear any official Ableton statement too, whilst rememebering the final release of Lion may have some tweaked bits which make it not work...
Live relevant things: Suite 12, MacBook M1 Max, RME UFX II (kext drivers), Push 1
