About songs order on album...
Yo fellow livers!
I got 19 songs for my new album. To my consternation, I realized that my album feel a lot more "smooth and relax" than I expected, as only 6 songs are high tempo. Now the 2 first songs are the catchy ones, high tempo little bitches. I just wonder if I should not give a start that would be more similar to the rest of the album by maybe only keep one high tempo song at the begin, and the next at like number 3 or 4.
Before compiling my songs, I though I had a "mellow gold" type of album... but now I realize its more like Mutation... not being quite Sea changes yet. To talk in BECK comparison...
2 years ago, I did the mistake to put my 2 most high speed tracks on my last album only to realize afterward that they were not really the best track I had...

Re: About songs order on album...
Have you thought about making it 2 different "albums?"
Re: About songs order on album...
3 actually! because I have a lot of unfinished songs... but as those 19 are finished, I think its time for a release. 2 years since my last album. I got fan mails asking for the next release date!
I will make, in a different Ableton project, a different timeline. Maybe I'll see the light trying new variations.

Creating a few different iTunes playslists and loading onto an iPod is a good way to test out too.

Excellent idea! Unfortunatly Itunes absolutly refuse to transfert anything on my Ipod and my Iphone. I changed computers few times and Itunes didnt like it. I tried quite a few things to fix the situation, following advices on forums, but just got bored at the end and gave up on Itunes.

pick the ones you think would be perfect for the album, the others put them out as an EP.
fans love EP's, I know I do.

Re: About songs order on album...
i think 19 songs is maybe too many, unless these are very short songs.
I wouldn't go much over 40 minutes for the album, and you can make sure that those are your best songs,. Although, having said that, the best songs might not be the best album. You might need one or two faster tracks in there to vary the mood of the album.
I second the 'EP' suggestion - that might be a good freebie for your fan list?

I always find it nice to start off with 15 minutes of gabba and speedcore to set the tone for the next hour of ambient noodling
