Is it a good idea to automate EQ?

Post by ilya.soloviev » Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:07 am

For example i have a bassline on different notes and on exact note some freqs are resonating too much..is it a good idea to cut this "bad" frequency just on this note?

What's your approach?

Thanks!

Yes, you can find the fundamental frequency of the offending note and "turn it down" -
Here is Bob Katz doing it during mastering.

Yeah, thats what i meant. But is this ok to apply this EQ on all notes? Or its better to automate it just on one note? That was my question

The answer has to be, whats makes the mix sound best. If you can't tell its probably better to leave it alone.

Each note will have a different fundamental frequency, so if you set the EQ for that note, then no automation is necessary. Watch the Bob Katz video, it explains everything in detail for the problem you describe.

But what about sub harmonics?
