Not all of the modules are expensive either, (for example) this is a seriously great and wacky filter that sells for $110 new and can be found for $80 2nd hand quite often:

This deffo is something that appeals.. but not yet for me... later fo sho! :)

So yeah... I'm gonna drop the 350 euros on the desktop Evolver on Monday.. (fingers crossed the guy don't 'flake'!!)
The Evolver is just sooo freaking cool... great sounding.. awesome modulation options.. analog/digital hybrid.. step sequencer not only for notes but also as modulation source.. delay.distortion, filter for external sound sources.. droooooling here!! :) oh small footprint AND great price! Hopefully by this time next week hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Been 'polishing up' my synthesis understanding quite a bit this week, in preparation of the Evolver arriving (could be tomorrow!)..
Anyway thought I'd share this link with you dudes... it's FULL of great info!!

enjoy! :)

I've started building interface for the evolver...in m4l
1. a simple setup using midi ccs (limited)
2. a sysex version where you can control every parameter in the evolver
(including lfos sequencers etc.)

the 2nd version is robust...
and is on hold until ableton give native sysex support for m4l..
(not worth it with the workaround...
using workarounds to route the sysex out to the midi outs-->evolver ..
its just too annoying..and unstable timing)
I'll continue working on it when Ableton sort it out..

I thought about sending you the 1st patch..
it's pretty useful ...but I wouldn't get m4l solely for that of course
the cc controls are limited by Dave Smith..
some serious parameters are left out..
you can only acheive full control using a special non-standard sysex transmition
so it's only good if you want to grab some knobs in Live and tweak..
if you get m4l ..hit me up

Ohh very cool!
Is it in Abletons plans to give native sysex support for m4L then?

Have you had any experience with the other editors for the Evolver?

BTW it arrived today! 8O it sure is awesome!!

Are you talking about the lh_midi stuff? I've been working on a controller using NPRNs for the Mopho based on this. I haven't done any testing on timing issues so I'm secretly hoping you're talking about some other workaround :)

yes...
lo hi nibble or something like that...
I think Dave improved on the cc control with the mopho
but in the evolver very important parameters are left out...
and you can only reach them using sysex..
which live unfortunately filters out..
there's a working m4l solution for this.. but sadly for me..it's MAC only..

Have you seen http://netzhansa.blogspot.com/2010/01/j ... sysex.html?

I've not had much time to get my head round M4L yet, but I have got this working, after a fashion.

I tried using the Java Midi Library as mxj in Max..
timing was ugly...

I'll take that as a "don't waste any time on it" then.

yep...

what I did was ..
make a max-runtime "midi router" app ..
that's "hardwired" to the m4l patch and outputs sysex midi directly to the evolver...
using this method.. latency varied between 20-60ms..
good enough for control..
but unstable ....

the cool thing is..
once I got everything working..
I can add some more lfos sequencers and envelopes using max ..
adding too many ...causes overload on the midi outs...(low resolution serial ports hmph)
but I'm planning on implementing some output "thinning"
so I can add loads more...

this version is going to be a monster!!! (eventually)
