Ableton Live + Omnisphere on my Macbook?
Ableton Live + Omnisphere on my Macbook?
Hi everyone!
I've been playing the drums for over ten years and lately I've gotten really interested in electronic music.
My current machine is a 2,4 Ghz Macbook with 4GB of ram.
I really want to run Ableton Live and Spectrasonics Omnisphere. Will it be able to run these programs?
I probably won't use this rig live, I just want to use it for composing / producing.
I just love the user-friendliness of Live plus the awesome sounds of Omnisphere!
Thank you guys so much for your help!
Z.

Id say that is fine. You just need one instance of omnisphere open anyway

No problem, although with Omnisphere it is possible to layer up enough sounds to kill most machines if you really try. It does have a few ways of optimising the way it loads/uses samples but I've never really had to bother on my ageing iMac.

Omnisphere is a monster! It's great though watch the size of the patches. Save regularly because I have hit "out of memory" a few times. Normally a good excuse to take a break.

I upgraded my MacBook to 6GB and Live, Omnisphere, Trilian and Stylus all run happily together in a studio environment.

That will run just fine. Omnisphere isn't that bad of a cpu hog, you can just load tons of instruments into it, which all take ram and cpu, so it's not different than loading many plug-ins. 4gb ram should be fine. I'd say use the memory server though to access ram outside of the Live application. It's a great feature of Omnisphere - you don't have to pull ram through the host.
Now if you were to get Trilian, then you might want more ram for those huge bass patches...

Never had an issue w/4gb of ram, and I've run several instances of on is here along with some other VSTs.
