Reverb plug-ins?

Post by Nx1 » Fri Jul 22, 2011 9:42 pm

Does anyone know of some really good sounding reverb plugins (preferably free ones)? The reason i ask is because something about abletons built in reverb irks me.. it sounds grainy and kinda nasty, it doesnt sound smooth at all, like reverb should sound. Like, if i hear someone used abletons reverb in a track i can instantly point out its abletons reverb because it has such a distinct sound to me.. i dont like it.

Check out ValhallDSP VRoom (& Shimmer, too). If you read through the thread you'll see it's a no-brainer.

It may take awhile after using but you'll find his where his plug-ins really shine are when you're tweaking the settings in realtime; there's some magic and personality in there you won't find anywhere else.

If you are on Windows plattform, you can try Bootsies epicVerb. That's the only free that comes to my mind.

Personally I would spend some money and go for 112db's Redline Reverb or for eaReckons eaReverb:

I second the Redline verb. You can demo it for 60 days.

Actually it is a VST, so getting it to show up in Ableton should be the same as any other VST. You downloaded the VST version, right?
The installation instructions tell me to drop it into my components folder, not the vst folder. and yes i downloaded what i thought was the right version but theres like 6 different downloads for mac that all basically say the the same thing

i forgot to mention, my computer doesnt recognize the vst files i suppose because when i try n open the download its just pages of jargon, where as the AU downloads actually register in my comp. Strange tho, coz im on a brand new macbook pro, it should work but whatever.

Reverb+good+free+mac = non-existant

Reverb+good+cheap(ish)+mac = http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom

My personal favorite is RP-Verb by Rob Papen. It never gets talked about but it sounds really, really good to me.

That's exactly the one you don't want to download. PowerPC plug-ins will not run on a new macbook pro. This is the one you want:
http://www.smartelectronix.com/refer.ph ... u-full.dmg

I can get it to show up in Live but without the GUI as featured on the site. Instead, it loads with the generic apple GUI. If you follow the installation instructions you will find it in Live's browser under Audio Units-> Magnus @ Smartelectronix-> Ambience

I think it sounds like garbage anyway...

Yes that would be the logical thing to do, however that doesnt work. Fuck it, im just going to buy a really nice plug in. Im not cheap, i was just seeing if there was a more economical solution, but i suppose you get what you pay for.
