They JUST released K7 not long ago THIS YEAR. And K8 includes only 2 updated instruments (Kontakt 5 and Guitar Rig 5 Pro) and includes some more content than on K7 update (90GB samples vs 110-ish MB) and maybe some more effects. I can't believe they aren't even offering an UPDATE option at this time as well. I got K7 due to 50% off which I couldn't really pass up to get Kontakt 4, GR-4, and Absynth 5, worth $114.50 I paid to update from K5 to K7.

Wait no update option? that can't be right.....eitherway, I took the same route as you. Got the 50% off summer deal and upgraded from K5 to K7.

I'm really interested in those drum libraries. Until I get a studio in my house and can fully mic my kit I'll need something amazing sounding to keep my somewhat satisfied

I forget when K7 originally came out but it had to have been in last 6 months at the least if 8 is due on 9/1/11. And the update was months after the initial release I *think*. I waited and waited till almost end of the time period to get the update. I wanted it for Absynth 5 and Kontakt 4 (GR-4 is a bonus I guess lol since I don't play guitar worth diddly haha). And Battery 3 has some decent kits in it for my needs (orchestral mainly). But I am not bothering with K8, probably not even to do an update. I'll wait and see if they do a K9 next year at a steep discount for updates ;-)

I'll wait for next summers' sale. From K6 the update cycle has been about a year and both K6 and K7 was -50% a month before announcing the new version.

Seems no one has seen this yet, but the drive is ONLY FOR INSTALLING.

You can't run the thing from the drive itself.

Well guess I was looking at the wrong page or something. I still am not spending the money to go to K8 since I just went to K7 at this time. Not worth it (and don't have the money for it). If it goes for 50% later and I got the coin maybe, but for GR-5 Pro, Kontakt 5 and Reaktor 5.6 which I haven't even messed with in a long long time - not worth the trouble/coin for me. I don't do music for a living as well.

I still have Komplete 5 and I don't think I will bother.
The thought of going through all those presets scares me.

I'm very under-impressed even though I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the NI products.

As a previous poster already mentioned; the drive is for installing only. That's NI's idea of taking away the need to continue to swap DVD's all the time. As can also be seen on the Komplete 8 ultimate specifications page.

Also note that the libraries don't take 240Gb but 190Gb because of used compression. 240Gb is only when everything is uncompressed (see the same spec page).

When looking at Komplete 8 I think its awkward that NI continues including somewhat dated stuff. For example; they include The Finger, but The Mouth is only available in Ultimate. A dumb move if you ask me. Abbey roads 60s drums is available in 8; why didn't they include more like the 80s or so? Heck; even the 'modern' pack would bring more diversity. But no; only in Ultimate.

And as a previous poster mentioned; get Ultimate and you most likely end up with a lot of stuff you'll never touch. Which was the main reason I got myself Komplete 7 Elements and bought some separate instruments and effects to go with it (Absynth 5, Rammfire (awesome!), Mouth, Finger, etc.). Yet even Elements has been reduced to (IMO:) ridiculous small proportions.

Komplete isn't as 'Komplete' as it once was... Now you need to be "Ultimate" or heck; get Komplete Infinity (ad joke).
With kind regards,

Peter

Given that it takes a few months to iron out bugs, it seems sensible to just wait until next year to get it heavily discounted, especially as id say there's nothng 'essential' in the update.

+1

But there's more. The "synth world" (as I like to call it) has a tendency to care for its customers (once again; personal impression). Guess what you can most likely expect during the holiday season ?

Massive discounts!

Last time I experienced this NI even reduced some of their products with 50%. I mean, like WHOAH!

Even <spam>blogged about that</spam>. Spam or not; the picture of the website error message ("You're using Internet explorer 8") while I was on FireFox is funny nonetheless).

It seems many people are a bit unimpressed with Komplete 8 in comparison to 7. If that turns out to be not only words but deeds as well I'd be surprised if NI didn't try a new sales period to sell off even more stuff.

Just guesses here mind you!
With kind regards,

Peter
