They JUST released K7 not long ago THIS YEAR. And K8 includes only 2 updated instruments (Kontakt 5 and Guitar Rig 5 Pro) and includes some more content than on K7 update (90GB samples vs 110-ish MB) and maybe some more effects. I can't believe they aren't even offering an UPDATE option at this time as well. I got K7 due to 50% off which I couldn't really pass up to get Kontakt 4, GR-4, and Absynth 5, worth $114.50 I paid to update from K5 to K7.
Wait no update option? that can't be right.....eitherway, I took the same route as you. Got the 50% off summer deal and upgraded from K5 to K7.
I'm really interested in those drum libraries. Until I get a studio in my house and can fully mic my kit I'll need something amazing sounding to keep my somewhat satisfied

I forget when K7 originally came out but it had to have been in last 6 months at the least if 8 is due on 9/1/11. And the update was months after the initial release I *think*. I waited and waited till almost end of the time period to get the update. I wanted it for Absynth 5 and Kontakt 4 (GR-4 is a bonus I guess lol since I don't play guitar worth diddly haha). And Battery 3 has some decent kits in it for my needs (orchestral mainly). But I am not bothering with K8, probably not even to do an update. I'll wait and see if they do a K9 next year at a steep discount for updates

I'll wait for next summers' sale. From K6 the update cycle has been about a year and both K6 and K7 was -50% a month before announcing the new version.

Well guess I was looking at the wrong page or something. I still am not spending the money to go to K8 since I just went to K7 at this time. Not worth it (and don't have the money for it). If it goes for 50% later and I got the coin maybe, but for GR-5 Pro, Kontakt 5 and Reaktor 5.6 which I haven't even messed with in a long long time - not worth the trouble/coin for me. I don't do music for a living as well.

I still have Komplete 5 and I don't think I will bother.
The thought of going through all those presets scares me.

Given that it takes a few months to iron out bugs, it seems sensible to just wait until next year to get it heavily discounted, especially as id say there's nothng 'essential' in the update.
