Post by jskdrums » Thu Aug 11, 2011 1:28 am

I'm running LIVE 6 & I'm curious to know if its worth upgrading to 7 or 8? I have 13" macbook ( blackbook ) ?

Thanks in advance for your perspective & input.

Since that is your 6th post, it might be a sign to stay with 6 until 9 arrives?

try the demos and see if there's anything you need or want that live 6 doesn't have..

I recently upgraded from 6 to 8 suite because they offered a good deal. The basic functionality of the program is the same but there are some significant enhancements. For example instrument racks and drum racks ( the latter seems to make impulse redundant). Of course with suite you get all the instruments. Operator and Sampler will take me a long time to learn well. I don't regret grading. Of course in the end it depends of what you want to do with it. I hope this helps.

As said above: Demo Live 8 (Suite?) and if you really need some of the enhancements NOW, than upgrade now.

But if you are able to do your tracks in Live 6 a little longer, I would wait for the announcement of Live 9, because the release of Live 8 was nearly 2 1/2 years ago and I think we can expect an announcement sooner or later. The advantage of waiting for the announcement will hopefully be, that you can upgrade to 8 then and get 9 for free, when it's released (grace period). I don't know for sure if they will handle it like that again, but that's what Abletons did in the past.

I think personally I'd wait, if I'd be in your situation.

If you like chopping up loops, Live 8 will be a worthwhile upgrade.
The new groove function is also great for humanising your beats.

Then again, if you're just recording some guitar and vocals, I wouldn't bother.
