You can here it in the song Equinox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYYyMu3pzL4) at about 1:06. It's the mechanical sounding swell. The closest I've gotten is in Synth Squad Cypher. I set the FM to 50% and made the FM Oscillator detuned 4cents down. Can anyone help me

I could care less whether or not you like it. I'm just looking for some sort of way to synthesize mechanical sounds like that.

eh? Whatever happened to music is a personal preference? And anyway this doesn't sound like dub step to me. But I like it anyway.

Back to the original point of this thread... waiting to see if there is a resolution cos I would also be interested to find out how to create that sound

I miss Justice. They were a hoot to hate on but the last time I saw them live which was close to the last time anybody saw them live it appeared they were aware of all the haters saying they weren't doing shit on stage because they really stepped up their performance game.

how can anyone fuck up music as a whole? if you don't like it, don't listen to it. this whole idea that someone should stop making music just because you don't like it is completely ignorant. and no nation or person owns a musical genre. music has no boundaries, only origins.

sorry to jack your thread, graham. i can't listen to the track cuz i'm at work. i just get annoyed when people use their own selfish tastes to make claims on who should make music and what they should be making.

Graham, i can't help too much but say that there's a ton of formant motion on that sound which is fairly typical of dubstep. I'm not sure how he obtained it but i'd look into that.

the tones in some parts remind me of a vocoder. ableton vocoder is capable of a wide range of sounds, if you have the patience to experiement.

i also hear a lot of cut/paste in skrillex basslines. very similar to tom cosm's glitchy bassline tutorial, which you should definitely look up if you want to accomplish a sound like this.
