I actually wish the S2 would have come out first, I think I would have been happier with it than the S4 I used to have.

it's slightly more portable and for those of us that aren't Ean Golden, it's probably more than enough control-wise for Traktor.

but I still want all the bells and whistles that make up the S4. plus it'd be cool to use timecode control when accessible.

I'll keep my Vestax VCI-100. After the Kore fiasco, NI will have a very hard time convincing me to give them money (I'm willing to make an exception for Reaktor 6, and the occasional Traktor update).

It took me forever to convince my friend, a former vinyl DJ, to make the switch to CDs. Now he loves it but poo-poos digital DJing. That was until he played with my S4. Now he loves that but the system is too expensive for his taste and as he comes from a vinyl DJ background sort of sees the 4 deck/sample deck option as overkill. So this S2 system might be perfect for him in both its price and limitations. Although I didn’t see price mentioned it’s got to be cheaper than the S4.

Hm, that might work for him. But I personally am usually the type to at least look at how much more I get for a few hundred bucks more even if I don't see an immediate need for those options, especially if there isn't an upgrade option which there rarely is with hardware.

I would buy the s4 over the s2 just for the abilities to use time code and to sync with maschine. s2 doesn't have the midi option. it gives traktor the ability to become a jam session tool at that point as well as a live performance tool.
