looking at various wavforms

Post by spacecat » Sun Aug 28, 2011 12:16 am

Hi=)

Just wondering why some wavforms seem to be oscillating.. is this some new mastering technique? and what does it affect?- the space between sounds? some kind of feel good frequency?
would be glad if someone could explain this to me =)

thx=)

Looks like there is an LFO on something.

Definitely not related to mastering.

maybe someone with some knowledge can explain it to me...

please post, pm or whatever ;)

Could also be pumping side-chain effect that is so popular these days.

A compressor side-chained from a 4-on-the-floor kick would create period volume modulations not unlike an LFO modulating amplitude.

Do you have a link to listen to the music?

dont think its because of sidechaining...

here are similar ones...

wow.beatport.com/track/mathematics-original-mix/2009111
wow.beatport.com/track/underslang-original-mix/1923905

but there are many like it...

:edited cuz of grammar and a second example... lol :P - darn im stuck in an edit loop... - it used to be: if you edited a post quickly enough, it wouldn't state that you edited... now i feel like an editarded person...

if they didn't oscillate you wouldn't be able to hear them, it would be a DC signal.

that's just what waveforms can look like. keeping it simple, the more sharp edges a waveform has the more high frequency content it has.

put Spectrum after a Operator or a synth you like that can do very basic oscillators, play around, see what you see. then make more complex sounds, add LFOs and see what you get.

it's hard to explain without going into DSP math and stuff.

look at his location, he's in my mind and I would rather have good sounds than bad sounds.

maybe you would have a better sound if you would not talk badly about people *behind their backs* and attempt to insult them even when you don't know them...
but, for the sake of others misinterpreting my location, as you have, I will adjust it a little to make it clearer... just for one day.. then change it again for another day and finally remove it as it it totally unimportant. (especially if it encourages negativity with some - which it shouldn't) - maybe someday I will put the original back in when we are all ready... (not a reaktion but a pro-active decision;)
p.s. on a good note (as always;) I dig your live setup and studio=)

last but not least, this is a good opportunity to bump this thread so that (hopefully) someone with actual knowledge of what is going on with the wavforms of those tracks in the original post can perhaps explain what exactly is happening please =)
