Is Live CPU-friendly?

Post by Felonius » Fri Sep 16, 2011 6:28 pm

Or more specifically: should it run decently on an i3, 4 GB ram, if one is not a plug-in piggy?

Thank you.

If you're on a PC, optimize it for best performance, in the control panels.

try the demo, search this thread for similar machines.

mostly try the demo. even people with identical Apple machines can have wildly different experiences.

I almost always leave Live open on my machine while I do other stuff.

Tone Deft, I take it your point is that your machine has enough CPU to keep Live open and do the other stuff?

yes. I can make sets that start to crack and pop, Live can always be pushed to a crawl but with modest sets it's fine. never bothered to optimize the machine either.

BEST part of the new machine is that at 48kHz sampling rate my latency is quite low, low enough to play midi instruments through it and not feel a buzz killing lag.

Very good! I should be in the 35-50% range. This raises a question: does the test, as it's laid out, tax the computer moderately, or hard, or what, compared to a real life situation?

Thanks again.

Download the trial and test it. It's the best way to find out. Anyhow I'm running Live on my core 2 duo without any problems at all. Then again I have learned to design my sets quite economical which is, no matter how powerful computer you have, the safest bet for live performance always.

No. Don't use warp if you want to save your CPU.

Yes, I had read that warp is on by default, and that it should be turned off unless it's really necessary.

absolutely awful advice. with warp off you miss out on a lot of Live's core awesome abilities.

That's not our fault. Live doesn't convert them to wav warped ones automatically. We have to render everytime when we want to save CPU. You are rather awful blind. Don't attack us or fool around with us to gain your sale. Shared-forum-account-marketer.
