programming and mixing deep bassy synths

Post by ekord123 » Tue Sep 27, 2011 5:26 am

Hey guys, so I'm really at a crossroads here with getting some of the sounds in my head onto my synths. I use an R3 and a Microkorg (both hardware). I've done plenty of messing around with filters/LFO's and other modulators, but I just feel like the result is too "thin".

I've pinpointed two possibilities:
1. I'm not mixing my synth right
2. I need to stack more than one on top of the other

With either, im pretty cluless. How exactly would I go about "stacking" them? I have two Oscilators already, would I just get a muddy tone if I combined two presets? I'm guessing this would require some band pass/high pass filtering, but in general I am completely unaware of this technique, as well as any techniques involving mixing synths.

any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I wanted to add that this is a great example of a nice FULL synth sound, something I'm going for.

There is definitely some multi-layered synths going on there, but also quite a subby kick drum that is side-chaining those synths, so it sort of adds weight to them that way also.

I typically hate that "FILTHY GRIMY" bullshit that you Britains are pumping out of your assholes.

But I have to admit...
