ugly krk monitors

Post by jagoff » Fri Sep 30, 2011 2:56 am

i own krk monitors and to say the least, they are hideous.

i want to paint the yellow woofers black, i'm not sure how to go about this

there must be someone out there who has had to do this, as they are the ugliest monitors money can buy

I actually like the yellow cone...

If you hate them so much I would suggest you sell them and buy something else before you ruin them and cant sell them back

don't paint them, there's no way they'd ever sound as good. if anything get some light black fabric to cover them up. stretchy fabrics work well, they're light and easy to get to wrap tight around objects.

The yellow color makes them sound brighter...

On a more serious note, did you not have an opinion about the color when you first bought them?

if you're gonna do it... use a fat tip sharpie or something that doesn't harden when it dries.

+1 for selling them (upgrade time?)

i had yamaha hs50m monitors and wanted to get a sub to fill out the low end.

everywhere i looked they were sold out of the yamaha sub monitor.

i ended up listening to a salesman that matching brands was not important in the low end.

it is.

i bought the krk monitors to match the sub because the yamaha's did not mesh well

I think you are mistaken, yours might be just the second ugliest. Maybe it is consolation of sorts

yellow is the coolest color,

if you don't like yellow, you can't seriously pretend to be a musician, because music is yellow (but midi is red)

cheers

If you really wanna turn them black, use an alcohol pencil, no paint.

@ OP, if you want to change colour, ink in water spray could have interesting results.....

Would be better with yellow cones too :)

"My monitors are so yellow even the black bits re yellow"

So, any advise for those with standard black/grey yellow coned KRKS that would like an all- over yellow look?

Lets talk RAL numbers here like proper blokes. (i'm thinking RAL 1003 right now but any suggestions are welcome.)

edit: 1016 looks more like it

I think garish, rudely-colored and/or hideous equipment has a certain charm to it.

whenever i see yellow cars in the city i pretend i'm hailing them as a cab. yellow is a disgusting, disgusting color.

that being said, they are AUDIO monitors. if they got what you need in the audio department, i think you are doing yourself a disservice by switching monitor because of their visual shortcomings. that is, unless you find other AUDIO monitors that will do as good of a job or better that aren't as hideous.

don't paint them. a sharpie would probably be fine, but you never know what kind of shit could happen and, yeah, you're not going to get as much for them if you sharpie the trademark color.

maybe someone should start a business of making KRK replacement woofers without that yellow?

Your signature is full of yellow?

Painting your speakers is sure to degrade your sound quality way more than mixing sub and main speakers brands would.
