Which audio interface?
Which audio interface?
Hi there
I know people have asked this before..But I'm looking for a new 8 i/o all rounder for about $750-$1200AU/US to replace my ageing Motu 828mk1.
I'm trying to decide between Motu ultralite,828mk3,Presonus Firestudio Tube or Focusrite Saphire series.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Re: Which audio interface?
I suggest the saffire series
Re: Which audio interface?
Something to be said for that - for all that I loathe RME support's attitude, they do at least support their hardware well enough for even relatively ancient hardware to be just as good as fully upto date hardware and drivers, so they remain a good investment.ao49 wrote:Just put in more money and buy a rme fireface and call it a done deal with audio interfaces.
Still think their staff are total wankers mind you, but if I need a portable audio interface - would probably still get a babyface to go along side the UFX and just pray I never ever need to contact their support.

Hey guys
Thanks for your input.
Yes I'd love to be able to afford an RME but...
If I had to choose between the Ultralite,828mk3 or Firestudio Tube..which do you think?
Sorry to be a pain

Re: Which audio interface?
presonus audiobox vsl series is going to be my next interface.
I would not recommend the 828mk3, the cuemix was dreadful to work with.
- You would have to assign mixes and never click the mix button, depending on what you have routed you may blow something at full levels.
The master volume knob, the way it responds and how it can be set in software is a major fail and dealbreaker for me.

Pros-
Good effects, but useless in an ITB situation where you can't do digital routes.

Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

Honestly I think you just just keep saving up then. I think that for audio interfaces, its best to invest a bit more money to get a nicer interface so you wont have to worry about upgrading ever again or at least for a long time. It saves money and time in the long run.jmouse wrote:Hey guys

Re: Which audio interface?
Exactly. RME has rock solid drivers, sounds great, amazing feature set. No brainer if you have the $. I have the FF 800, but the 400 is great and the Babyface is even cheaper and portable.ao49 wrote:Just put in more money and buy a rme fireface and call it a done deal with audio interfaces.

Re: Which audio interface?
A small investment for a BLA mod to your current interface will smoke any interface you could currently buy in your price range and would be less than half of what you are looking to spend. Just an opinion from someone who has already gone down the path you are taking.

Hey all
Thanks again for all your input.
I've been in contact with the music store about the Fireface 400 and I'll probably
get one if still available at that price.. $1137.00 AU.
Cheers
