I think these are more interesting..

Re: livids expansion boxes
I'm liking the hardware building too.
Looks like they've added more to the line since I was last on there.
It all looks quite plug-n-play! Is it as easy as that?
a brain, come boards, some knobs n sliders n buttons and a bit of soldering - is that all thats needed?
Would you need technical skills in electronics to assemble?
The hardest bit I guess would be rigging up leds under buttons and getting those to work.
Really interested in hearing how easy/hard this is to do

Re: livids expansion boxes
Just "added to basket" what I thought would make an amazing controller.
£327 not including postage! Hehe.
12 sliders
24 buttons (2 under each slider to turn on/off channel and maybe effects on/off)
48 knobs (4 above each slider(channel) to control vst/effect parameters or EQ)
12" wide by 8". That would sit nicely in front of a laptop

Re: livids expansion boxes
Interesting.
It's too bad they don't have the joysticks in the Builder components. For a product that offers customization it looks like we're back to the same old situation encountered with most controllers: they left something off! But I guess I can get them elsewhere.
Would also like to know if the joysticks in the XPC modules are spring-loaded or not. Not a big fan of spring-loaded joysticks: can't use them for panning in a spatialized audio field.
Interesting, nonetheless.
Wonder how they compare to Doepfer's Pocket Electronics DIY products:

They have more modules on their Products page.

Re: livids expansion boxes
probably you can connect a joystick instead of 2 encoders...(?)
Re: livids expansion boxes
doepfer stuff certainly isn't as expensive.
their stuff doesn't look as technically advanced as Livid's stuff.
Livid use their brain to transmit midi via USB rather than standard midi cable/plugs - this means not needing to have a midi in/out device to take to gigs.
Looks like doepfers stuff all needs it's own power sources too. Yet another thing to cart about when gigging - not good.

Re: livids expansion boxes
My question is how fluidly does a self built midi device work in ableton? Do you need to create your own python script to get it to work or is there an easy template that would make the different parts work appropriately?

Re: livids expansion boxes
See I am totally shop inclined to make one of those...but scripting stupid. So the most I could personally get out of this is a simple midi controller. Wouldn't you still need a basic python script for ableton to see the controller?
Re: livids expansion boxes
I think not. I should show as a standard midi controller. Some bomes, m4l, python or whatnot would make it integrate better though.. Basic Ableton remote script would do also.skatr2 wrote:See I am totally shop inclined to make one of those...but scripting stupid. Re: livids expansion boxes
Oh, I just "added to basket" to see what the total would be for a dream controller.
I haven't went ahead and bought it
I might think about maybe giving making something a try though if it looks as easy as it says!
If they had the same knobs they used on the CODE (infinite + led feedback) available for the DIY projects then i'd DEFINITELY be up for making something knob-tastic!

Oh. I thought that you already started building.
