Auto Pan gating out of time?

Post by Xen Ochren » Thu Oct 27, 2011 1:47 am

Hey all, just wondering if anyone else has had this, and wether there is a known fix.

Occasionally, when I have a pad sound, and I want to chop it to 16ths, I will use the autopan.

however occasionally, when listening back, the 16ths will be out of time, off the beat, and occasionally perfectly in sync.

I just rendered a finished track, uploaded it to soundcloud, and noticed the 16ths were out. Really annoying! all i can do is re render, and hope for the best!

what is going on here??? its happened to me a lot...

restarting my computer didn't help this, but turning it off and on again did!!!

It was ONLY the autopan offset that was wrong, nothing else in the entire track of 50 channels. and autopan has done this several times to me!

thoughts?

This may be a long shot, but does your soundcard have an external power supply that you can turn on and off? My old box was running on a Layla 24 that had a really strange problem, about 1/3 to 1/4 of the time, when I'd boot up, the pitch would just be off. I worked around this by having a tuning fork handy set to A440 Hz and then having my box play a pure A when it booted up. If it was wrong (always high, and always by the same amount), I'd turn the soundcard on and off, and then adjust the Khz from 44.1 to 48 and back again.

Sometimes I had to do that more than once, but it did end up working after at most 2-3 tries.

Also, how old is your soundcard? Christmas is coming ;)

Cheers,

Yeah that was my second choice, after a series of long, arduous troubleshooting sessions. Looking back, I'm not sure it was the right one...

After all was said and done, I still went with an Audiofire 8 as my next soundcard, so I still believe in the brand, but if that shit happens again I'm out.

edit - sorry just read properly

when you say the offset was wrong - you mean it changed value?

the offset value will effect the timing of the gating effect

Xen Ochren did you ever get this sorted? I'm having the same issue.

Scroll down to "does Live compensate everything", read about beat synced devices such as autopan

Thanks Angstrom, so basically beat sync is useless unless the device is located early enough in the chain? Wow

No. Notice the Phase knob? Use your ears.

Angstrom gave some deeper perspective on this issue in a response to me here in PDC according to Sadowick.

yo 2021 almost 2022 here :D

I had the same issue and realized I had izotope nectar in the beginning of the chain, that was delaying it for some reason idk why but as soon as I took it off, it got fixed. hope this help!
