Which soundcard????

Post by Westpit » Thu Feb 24, 2005 12:37 pm

I need a soundcard that will enable me to do the following.

a) Pre-Listen in Ableton
b) Connect A Midi device to use as a controller
c) Send Live's Master out to a mixer
d) Send the output from the mixer back into the PC (for recording)
e) Send everything out to an Amplifier/monitors.

I can only use USB or PCI, not firewire.

Does anyone know what I need to get?

Thanks.

There are tons of things that do this. Just check any music store site. A good one in the states is novamusik.com. Just look for usb/pci audio cards. There are many so I can't say what you need. zzounds.com have a big selection but I wouldn't buy from them. There are alot of places to look. It's just a matter of looking on your part.

It's also nice to test them on your machine, especially if it's a PC.

Yes I know this, but I need to make sure that everything will connect properly. Thats why I was asking if anyone knew the best one to fit my specs, most websites dont tell me that.

currently i have a Esi Juli@ no problems at all , output master from live to mixer ,inputs back from mixer into soundcard for recording/ monitor in live, mixer outputs sent to active monitors. it has a breakout cable on the soundcard for midi in and out, also S/PDIF. not many inputs i know so maybe look at this one

i would stay away from M-Audio products, E-MU as they have known driver issues..

some other cards to maybe look at

When it comes to soundcards, you can get a card that is:

- Cheap
- Has multiple independent output/input channels
- High performance/audio quality

..Pick any two of the above. =)
