ableton cache decoding mp3 to wavs

Post by swett » Sat Nov 05, 2011 7:06 pm

I just ran a program called Grandperspective that shows you in a graphic way what files are on you computer and how much room they take, and found a huge section of .wav files taking up quite a bit of room, and they turned out to be mp3 files that I have on my DJ sets, and ableton converts into wav files and stores in a cache/decoder folder.
This worries me a little. Is there a way to avoid this happening? My Dj sets contain hundreds of what I thought were mp3's been streamed directly from the itunes folders where I keep them…

Thanks, Bryan.

If you want to dj with mp3s use Scratch Live, Traktor, etc..

Live decodes mp3 files to wav and stores then in your cache as wav is easier to work with than a compressed format like mp3.

This won't likely ever change - but these days if you have the option to buy a wav rather than mp3 - you save yourself one step plus start with a higher quality file to begin with.
